Alumni Career Network members have agreed to provide general academic, career and job search advice. Please do not contact them to ask for a job. With this in mind, review the following guidelines and suggested questions you might ask.

General Guidelines

Network members are not personally screened by Career Services, and are to be contacted for career information and advice only. Alumni do not wish to be contacted for job leads or interviews.

After a mentor has been helpful to you, send a thank you letter or email.

Keep your emails and the number of your questions to a reasonable length.

If calling, make reference to the "Rutgers Alumni Career Network" and be considerate about the time of day. Do not call late in the evening.

If emailing, we suggest using "Rutgers Alumni Career Network" in the subject line..

Bear in mind that different alumni may give you different advice, based on their experiences. If you are uncertain about anything, speak with a Career Services staff member.
